Are you intrigued, captivated, or even intimidated by the idea of working hot steel under a power hammer?  Great!  While traditional forging with a hammer and anvil has its charm, the increased power and consistency of a power hammer offer undeniable advantages.  This class will introduce you to power hammers, their different types, functions, and maintenance; the use of various dies for moving the metal; proper safety; and the use fo hand held and clamped on tooling.  You will practice some of the basic forging operations to make various tools to take home with you like a round bottom swage, a flatter, a V block, a side-set/butcher, and a hack and snapper.  You will be using one of the three 70 pound Tire Power Hammers built in the workshop in 2019, with two students per hammer and thus a minimal wait time and a maximum working window.  Come and learn how to get the full potential out of your power hammer.
